Poor Preparation Casting Persipura Points
Liga Indonesia/Indonesia Super League record
Champions - 2005, 2009, 2011, 2013
Runners Up - 2010, 2012, 2014
Ok it could be argued 2016 was never gonna be Persipura's year judging by their record. In the absence of any football last year perhaps the club are subconsciously preparing for 2017, the next odd numbered year to rouse from their slumber.
To be sure it has been a most un Persipura start to the campaign. Drawing two consecutive home games is almost unheard of for the Black Pearls and in fact their dismal run goes back even further if we include Sudirman Cup and Bhayangkara Cup. One win in 10 games! Yep, we are talking about Persipura. They did win both their ISL games in 2015 so let's not be too harsh on them.
So what has happened to the most successful team in recent years? Their preparations for the ISC haven't been the best it must be said. They were latecomers to the aforementioned cup competitions and were stripped of many of their best players who moved on because of the uncertainty in Jayapura.
Their midfield has been badly hit with Robertinho, Gerald Pangkali, Emmanuel Wanggai and Lim Jun Sik's absences been sorely felt while upfront the experienced trio of Boas, James Koko Lommel and Boakay Eddie Foday to really gel with just a single goal all season from Lommel. At the same time Liberian Sengbah Kennedy has yet to turn his potential into performance and has been allowed to leave the club.
There is some familiarity in the team with Yoo Jae Hoon, Ricardo Salempessy, Bio Paulin and Ian Luis Kabes providing some consistence and there has been promise in the performances of M Tahir and Fernando Pahabol. The latter came on and shook things up against Bali United but has yet to prove he is more than just a speed merchant.
Persipura management have already come out and said they expect more, adding players shouldn''t be tested anymore, they should be producing and hinting coach Jafri Sastra may have just arrived but that means nothing in football. Against that we must consider the current fate of former Persipura coach Jacksen F Tiago, now with Penang, The man who led them to so much glory is currently being 'rested' by his Malaysian side and a decision as to whether he stays or goes is likely this week.
Next up for Persipura is away to Persela. Traditionally a tough place for teams to take anything from, Persela have their own problems with zero points from their three games and coach Stefan Hansson's place is thought to be under threat.
With six days to go before they meet who will be coaching either team is anyone's guess!

The Ardiles Derby
When Semen Padang went toe to toe with Persipura yesterday in the Indonesia Soccer Championship the game was notable for one thing. The name Ardiles. No the former Tottenham, Argentina midfielder and occasional back up singer for Chas n Dave hasn't come out of retirement for the bright lights and pleasure of Padang or Jayapura.
Home team Semen Padang have a player called Hengky Ardiles. A true local lad made good, Ardiles was born and raised in West Sumatra and apart from a short spell with Persikabo has spent his career with Semen Padang and gone on to represent his country.
Osvaldo Ardiles Haay is a 17 year old who has been given his chance in the first team by Persipura this season after impressing in the Bhayangkara Cup. Despite his tender years he has been quick to impress in a misfiring Persipura side and no doubt he is a name we will be hearing much more about in the future though perhaps in the short term his appearances may be rationed as he is also studying at university!
Yesterday in Padang was the first tie Ardiles (Padang) had come up against Ardiles (Papua) on the pitch and while it was the elder who secured the points it was valuable experience for the youngster.

Ismed's Penalty Breaks The Drought
Persipura v Bali United 0-0 12,364
If we're totally honest the first half was a pretty drab affair with few chances though I was impressed by the performance of M Tahir who looked a neat and tidy player. Looks like I was the only one as coach Jafri Sastra pulled him off at half time and replaced him with Pahabol who almost immediately made an impact, bringing a verve and an intensity to the home side's attack that had been missing earlier.
Bali United looked disciplined and effective and had they won there would have been few who were shocked. Sukaraja missed a fine opportunity after good work down the left when he scooped his effort over the bar though credit to Yoo in the Persipura goal for getting his angles right. This Persipura team, despite the spine of familiar names, has yet to click into gear and it is little surprise they are being linked with Greg Nwokolo, recently released by Thai side BEC Tero.
Interesting fact - Boas Solossa was replaced on 65 minutes by Osvaldo Ardiles Haay!

Persija v Semen Padang 1-0 (Ismed Sofyan) 50,117
The biggest crowd of the season saw Persija make hard work of defeating Semen Padang. It took a second half penalty from veteran full back Ismed Sofyan to secure the points but I don't think many home fans were too put out by the laboured performance. They hadn't seen their heroes play a proper game in Jakarta since 2014; for them it was all about dusting off the songbooks and paying homage.
Teenager Umanailo could have give Persija the lead before Ismed scored but instead he somehow contrived to miss what looked like a sitter, firing wide when one on one with the pony tailed Janida. While that spurned opportunity could be put down to the recklessness of youth he showed nifty footwork to claim the penalty.

Bhayangkara Surabaya United v PS TNI 0-0 9,612
Indonesia's first Uniform Derby ended the way of most other games this weekend with both sides firing blanks. BS United coach Ibnnu Grahan was the unhappy one saying his team had worked hard and had created a number of chances. His opposite number Edward Tjong had mixed feelings. He felt a point was deserved but would have preferred the three points to boost the confidence among his young charges after they had lost their opening game last week.
Whatever the result it was good to see a crowd of almost 10,000 watching the game and if this continues it should boost the average attendance for he ISC. Mind, some goals would be nice!
BS United: Wahyu Tri Nugroho; Otavio Dutra, Suroso, Putu Gede Juni Antara (Sahrul 46'), Fathcurahman, Zulfiandi, Hargianto, Fandi Eko Utomo (Ilham 56'), Abdelkibir (Fitra 80'), Rudi Widodo, Shane Malcolm.
