Sriwijaya, Persija Pick Up Valuable Away Points
Gresik United v PS TNI 0-0 12,300
Unfortunately this game was marred by a pitch invasion that held up proceedings for almost 20 minutes and left 50 fans needing treatment as marauding PS TNI fans went on the rampage.
The game itself wasn't too bad. In the first half especially South Korean Oh In Kyun was the wayang master for Gresik United but all too often the final delivery was woeful.
As for PS TNI they remain winless after four games and have just two points to show for their efforts. Their attempt to build a team around young Indonesian players is laudable but unless they do something to reign in their support they will soon become associated with something other than football.

Ismed's Penalty Breaks The Drought
Persipura v Bali United 0-0 12,364
If we're totally honest the first half was a pretty drab affair with few chances though I was impressed by the performance of M Tahir who looked a neat and tidy player. Looks like I was the only one as coach Jafri Sastra pulled him off at half time and replaced him with Pahabol who almost immediately made an impact, bringing a verve and an intensity to the home side's attack that had been missing earlier.
Bali United looked disciplined and effective and had they won there would have been few who were shocked. Sukaraja missed a fine opportunity after good work down the left when he scooped his effort over the bar though credit to Yoo in the Persipura goal for getting his angles right. This Persipura team, despite the spine of familiar names, has yet to click into gear and it is little surprise they are being linked with Greg Nwokolo, recently released by Thai side BEC Tero.
Interesting fact - Boas Solossa was replaced on 65 minutes by Osvaldo Ardiles Haay!

Persija v Semen Padang 1-0 (Ismed Sofyan) 50,117
The biggest crowd of the season saw Persija make hard work of defeating Semen Padang. It took a second half penalty from veteran full back Ismed Sofyan to secure the points but I don't think many home fans were too put out by the laboured performance. They hadn't seen their heroes play a proper game in Jakarta since 2014; for them it was all about dusting off the songbooks and paying homage.
Teenager Umanailo could have give Persija the lead before Ismed scored but instead he somehow contrived to miss what looked like a sitter, firing wide when one on one with the pony tailed Janida. While that spurned opportunity could be put down to the recklessness of youth he showed nifty footwork to claim the penalty.

Bhayangkara Surabaya United v PS TNI 0-0 9,612
Indonesia's first Uniform Derby ended the way of most other games this weekend with both sides firing blanks. BS United coach Ibnnu Grahan was the unhappy one saying his team had worked hard and had created a number of chances. His opposite number Edward Tjong had mixed feelings. He felt a point was deserved but would have preferred the three points to boost the confidence among his young charges after they had lost their opening game last week.
Whatever the result it was good to see a crowd of almost 10,000 watching the game and if this continues it should boost the average attendance for he ISC. Mind, some goals would be nice!
BS United: Wahyu Tri Nugroho; Otavio Dutra, Suroso, Putu Gede Juni Antara (Sahrul 46'), Fathcurahman, Zulfiandi, Hargianto, Fandi Eko Utomo (Ilham 56'), Abdelkibir (Fitra 80'), Rudi Widodo, Shane Malcolm.

Indonesia's First Uniform Derby
Unlike the rest of South East Asia Indonesia's police and military have long since avoided professional football. For them it was enough to wheel out their teams, PS Polri and PS TNI, for the occasional friendly against the national team when they were needed.
That has changed and now both are represented with the military taking over from Persiram and the Cops merging with Surabaya United and both meet today in the country's first Uniform Derby in Sidoarjo.
Now known as Bhayangkara Surabaya United, or BS United for short, the Cops can rely on support from their own ranks, something Surabaya United were never able to do considering the ongoing polemic with Persebaya. Their nickname is actually the Great Alligator, an animal symbolic with Surabaya but I have been calling them the Cops for obvious reasons.
Their side is a mixture of youth and experience with the star name being Evan Dimas. Highly touted as part of the successful national Under 19 side, Dimas has made headlines with his trials at Spanish clubs but this is the season he needs to turn that obvious talent into performances. Whether BS United is the right club to do that remains to be seen; win today though and they go top.
Other familiar names at BS United include experienced Brazilian defender Otavio Dutra first came to Indonesia back in 2010 when he signed for Persebaya 1927. Since then he has played for Persipura and Gresik United and this season he will be one of the older heads at BS United.
Lining up for the Cops is also the first Guam international to play in Indonesia. Shane Malcom is a 24 year old attacking midfielder who was born in Jamaica and last played for Stirling Lions in Australia.
Another experienced player in the Cops' ranks is striker Rudi Widodo who is now with his 14t club since making his debut in 2002 with Persiku. A reliable player rather than being a consistent goal getter. Fandi Utomo is a local lad and the son of a former Persebaya player Yusif Ekodono and one wonders how Dad feels about his lad playing for the enemy!
BS United won their first game away to Barito Putera 2-1 with goals from Otavio and Rudi.
Unlike the Cops, PS TNI are keeping their name alive and last week's season opener against Madura United saw 10,000 head to the Siliwangi Stadium in Bandung, their new base. An impressive crowd for a game deep in Bobotoh territory.
Also unlike the Cops, PS TNI aren't bothering with foreign players, coach Edward Tjong focusing on local lads and serving military personnel. There are some familiar players in their ranks including keeper Teguh Amiruddin and the highly rated midfielder Mahahati Lestusen who spent time in Belgium with CS Vise not too long ago.
Off the field there has been a lot of rivalry between the police and the military with a number of incidents making the news. It remains to be seen whether that follows on into the stadiums when the teams meet. Putting that aside at least both clubs can rely on for support from local cops and soldiers where ever they play this season and today, the first Uniform Derby, will be a indicator of how strong that support is.

Persib v Sriwijaya 1-1 (Tantan; Alberto Goncalves) 25,125
Indonesia Super League champions and winners of the President Cup Persib left it late to earn a point from the opening game of the ISC campaign. Tantan, on as a second half replacement for Argentine import Robertinho saved Persib's blushes in injury time but judging by Twitter the Bobotoh were in no mood to rejoice.
Sriwijaya had done their homework. Despite going into the game with a youngster between the sticks, well, early 20s, they stuffed their outfield with former Persib players and it was the visitors who took the lead in injury time of the first half with ex Persipura, Arema striker Goncalves finding the net.
Last season I felt that Sriwijaya had recruited well but we never got a chance to see them at their best before the campaign was halted. This year, adopting the policy if it worked for Persib then why not us the two time ISL champions raided the West Java club for players. Not a bad start eh? And not a bad return journey for the 100 or so Sriwijaya fans who travelled overland from Palembang...about 750 kilometres with a sea crossing thrown in!
After the game Persib coach Dejan Antonic admitted the team had not played too well saying it was important the team did not lose but several of his players underperformed and he was pleased with their showing in the last 25 minutes.
Persib: I Made Wirawan; Purwaka Yudhi, Yanto Basna, Tony Sucipto, Vladimir Vujovic, Atep (David 59'), Hariono, Kim Jeffrey Kurniawan, Robertino Pugliara (Tantan 62'), Juan Belencoso, Samsul Arif (Febri 76').

Barito Putera v Bhayangkara Surabaya United 1-2 (Ibrahim Conteh; Otavio Dutra, Rudi Widodo) 8,178
It was the home team that took the lead through Conteh but the new look Surabaya United, their first game since they merged with PS Polri fought back and earned three points thanks to a second half winner from the experienced Widodo with just six minutes on the clock.
The Cops had Shane Malcolm in their starting line up after signing the Jamaican born Guam international pre season. He had previously played for Stirling Lions in Western Australia.
Barito coach Mundari Karya rued the first half penalty awarded to BS United by the ref saying the official was too far from the action to have seen the incident clearly. 'I still respect the decision,' he said, 'even though it changed the players attitude.'
Barito Putera: Aditya Harlan; Hansamu Yama, Mamdou El Hadji, Aswar Syamsuddin, Fathul Rahman, Lucky Wahyu ( Amirul Mukminin 69'), Adam Alis, Ibrahim Conteh, Ichsan Pratama (Paolo Sitanggang 46'), Dedi Hartono, Junior (Yongki Ariwibowo 71').
