Barito Putera Hit Perseru For Five

If it's goals you want then Barito Putera are the team for you. Yesterday they thrashed Perseru 5-1 with a hat trick from Luis Carlos Junior and the side from South Kalimantan have now seen 34 goals scored in their nine games so far this season.

30/04 v BS United 1-2
09/05 v Mitra Kukar 1-1
15/05 v Gresik United 3-1
21/05 v PSM 0-1
29/05 v Persija 1-0
13/06 v Persipura 4-5
17/06 v Semen Padang 1-1
27/06 v Persela 2-4
01/07 v Perseru 5-1

With 10 goals in nine games Luis Carlos Junior has found Indonesian football very much to his liking; an even more remarkable return when you consider this is his first time playing overseas. Compare, if you will, his return with that of Juan Belencoso, Persib's Spanish striker who arrived in Indonesia with a strong reputation after performing so well for Kitchee in both Hong Kong and the AFC Cup.

Playing for Barito Putera guaranteed not to give players too many headlines. They play in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan and are pretty well off the radar as far as the Java centric media is concerned.

Coached by Mundari Karya, who doesn't even have a wiki entry yet, they have certainly provided an upset or two this season, most noticeably leading Persipura 3-1 at Mandala Stadium at one stage before losing 5-4.

Not a team brimming with stars, Sierra Leone's Ibrahim Conteh had spells with English luminaries Ware and Cheshunt City before moving to Indonesia last year with Persipasi Bekasi Raya. He signed for Barito Putera at the start of the current season and yesterday's goal was the second of the campaign.

M Roby is probably the old head in the team. The 30 year old former international has previously had spells with Persija, Persik and Persisam before signing for Barito Putera in 2014. For all his experience the team boast the worst defence in the ISC having conceded 16 goals so far!

Mundari is a coach who has worked his way up through the ranks and has worked with some of Indonesia's finest young players and that is reflected in his squad with 20 year old Paolo Sitanggang, 22 year old defender Adam Alis featuring prominently this season.

For all the goals the team have scored this season the fans haven't been coming to games. Yesterday saw just over 2,000 see the six goal thriller and the club will be hoping after the fasting month has ended supporters will return to the stadium.
