Persita Hoping For Change Of Fortunes

Persita Tangerang have not enjoyed the best of times in the Indonesia Super League. They were relegated in the first campaign back in 2008/2009 and last season, their first year back, they struggled against the drop until finishing 14th.

This year, they hope things will change.

Last time round they were one of Indonesia's nomad clubs, forced to play their home games in Kuningan, West Java which is a bloody long way to go each home game! That came about because of frequent instances of crowd disturbances whenever they used the Benteng Stadium in Tangerang between their supporters and fans of city rivals Persikota and local residents.

The new season will see them playing at Singaperbangsa Stadium in Karawang. Still a fair trek for the faithful but decidedly preferable to Kuningan. (In 2015 they hope to move into a new, purpose built stadium).

With the denim wearing Moldovan coach Arcan Iurie at the helm for the new season, there is some stability on the pitch with Cristian Carrasco (pictured) and Luis Edmondo both staying while former Albirex Niigata, Bontang, Persiba and Persib striker Kenji Adachihara has been added to the ranks to add some potency.

The Japanese striker come attacking midfielder has scored goals where ever he has played and he impressed Iurie at a recent friendly enough for the coach to recommend he sign for the club.

Persita's season gets under way in earnest next week when they move to Bandung for the Inter Island Cup group phase. They have been drawn alongside Persib, Pelita Bandung Raya and Persijap.
