IPL Hogs Centre Stage This Weekend. But No One Is Watching!

Just two Indonesia Premier League games this weekend but they are both potentially beauties as the top three are in action.

Today sees second place Perseman Manokwari host Pro Duta in Sleman. Perseman don't have much of a football pedigree though they do boast ex Arsenal striker among their alumni. But they are doing well in the IPL this season and surely one reason for that is the reduced travel time.

Manokwari won't win the prize of the hardest to get to game this season but it sure ain't easy so whoever decided they should switch their home games to Sleman, close to Yogyakarta, was thing straight.

They boast a pretty lethal strike force with Marcio Souza and T A Mushafry bringing plenty of experience but to be honest I don't know too much about the rest of the team.

I know less about Pro Duta, a nomadic team who once flirted with home games in Sleman themselves a few years back but I am not alone there. Former Persiba, Persiter striker Mushafry is quoted in the paper as saying the same thing today!

Indonesia's top flight division gets no TV coverage and very few column inches compared to Indonesia Super League.

Champions and leaders Semen Padang, basking in the glory of their AFC Cup triumphs, travel to the island of Sulawesi to meet PSM Makassar, a traditional football power fallen on hard times of late; I never know whether to compare them with Leeds United or Newcastle United!

The consistent Edward Wilson Junior has been on fire for Semen Padang this season with 14 goals so far including eight in the Cup run. PSM mind have their own prolific goal getter, Ilija Spasojevic, who has managed four this season in his team's seven games; all came against PSIR Rembang's leaky old defence who boast the second worst defence in the league...despite sitting fourth in the table.

Semen Padang don't have so many leaks. They have conceded just one goal so far this season and boast a defender called Ardiles!

The IPL isn't blessed with that many big names and the few there are will be on show in Makassar tomorrow for this game but we won't see it. No TV for the IPL!

1 - Semen Padang 6 5 1 0 15-1 16
2 - Perseman 7 5 1 1 12-4 16
3 - Pro Duta 7 4 2 1 11-3
------------------------------------
10 - PSM 7 3 0 4 9-6 9
