Another Persija Defeat

Indonesia Super League

Persija v Persiram 0-1 (Elthon Maran)
PSPS v Persidafon 1-2 (Konate Makan; Yohanes Makanuay, Anis Nabar) 3,000
Persib v Persiba 1-0 (Sergio Van Dijk) 21,500
Mitra Kukar v Barito Putra (Esteban Herrera) 35,000

Persija's woeful season continued with Persiram taking three points from an empty Bung Karno. Former Persija striker Bambang Pamungkas was quoted as saying it would be Indonesian football's loss if they get relegated but I am afraid I must disagree with the iconic striker.

One of the reasons why Persija are where they are is because management can't find any money. If Indonesian football is to make strides it needs people in place who have the vision and foresight to source different revenue streams. To allow a relegated team to stay up with shoddy management is not the way forward.

On the other hand Persija do deserve respect for allowing themselves to lose at home. And I don't mean that in a bad way. There are many clubs in this country who see a home defeat as a personal affront, Persija lose and that shows a professionalism many of their rivals lack.

Persib meanwhile continue onward and upward. They are perhaps the most successful club in the country when it comes to sponsorship and they recently secured the services of Sergio Van Dijk who has responded with nine goals in nine games.
