Home Edge SAFFC In Uniform Thriller

One of the daftest derbies around. I always thought calling Melbourne Croatia v Sydney Croatia or Melita Eagles v Sunshine GC derbies was nuts; the tenuous link is not geographical but ancestral.

In Singapore, every bloody game is a derby unless it's something like Tampines Rovers travelling to Woodlands. SAFFC v Home United is a derby 'cos the former is/was a military team while the latter is/was the police team. Both services wear uniforms hence uniform derby.

Anyway last they met at Bishan Stadium in front of a crowd given as 2,005. Home United , nicknamed the Protectors, won 3-2 despite having a player sent off and their goalkeeper, Lionel Lewis, rumoured to be interesting Persib, taken off injured.

Frederic Mendy gave the home team, who were Home, the lead (14th goal of the season) but Mislav Karoglan equalised from the spot with his 16th of the season, just after Rosman Sulaiman had received his second yellow of the night.

Moments in the second half Home restored the lead with Qiu Li (13th goal) making it 2-1 but just shy of the hour mark Lewis was forced off the field.

If Home were flustered they didn't show it and with seven minutes left Firdaus Idros, with his seventh of the season, gave them a 3-1 lead. Fazrul Nawaz (10th goal) made it 3-2 a couple of minutes later but Home held on for the three points, extending their lead at the top of the table to five points.
