Singapore Olympic v Malaysia Olympic

SINGAPORE, 20 January 2011: The Singapore Olympic team will take on their Malaysian counterparts on Monday, 24 January, at the Jalan Besar Stadium, in preparation for their upcoming Olympic Qualifiers first-leg away match against Yemen on 23 February.

The Malaysian Olympic team will be travelling with seven players from the Tigers’ AFF Suzuki Cup winning squad featuring the likes of defender Mohamad Muslim Ahmad and industrious full-back Mahali Jasuli who scored in the Tigers 5-1 win over Laos during the group stages.

National coach Radojko Avramovic believes that the match will provide a stern test for his charges and is looking forward the challenge.

“This is good preparation for the boys because Malaysia is a strong team. For some of them, it may be too early but we mustgive our players international match exposure to develop their game early. This is a good opportunity for them to show their ability and prove that they want to be in the final squad that we bring to Yemen.”

Singapore will boast the likes of Izwan Mahbud and Afiq Yunos. The duo was part of coach Avramovic’s AFF Suzuki Cup squad.

“We have been communicating well but I believe that we can do better and big games like these will certainly help us shape up as a unit. I’m sure we can take many good lessons from playing against top opponents.” said Afiq.
