Medan's Singapore Connection

Ok so not everyone has played a game yet but Medan Chiefs are sitting pretty in the nascent Liga Primer Indonesia in second place on goal difference.

German coach Jorg Steinbrunner brings a wealth of experience to the newly formed team including a dozen years in Singapore where he has coached Woodlands Wellington, Sengkang Punggol and assisted at champions Etoile in the latter half of last season as they won the league.

Now he has realised a long cherished dream of coaching in Indonesia with the Chiefs and to help him settle in he has surrounded himself with familiar faces.

Moroccan striker Abdelhadi Laakkad was a prolific striker with Woodlands in days of yore and will provide invaluable experience up front for the Chiefs who actually play their home games in Deli Serdang which is just outside Medan.

Midfielder Kevin Yann adds youth to the midfield. The 21 year old Frenchman played with SLeague side Etoile last season and followed Jorg across the Melaka Straits for the debut season of the LPI.

Chilean defender Luis Eduardo Hicks has been around yonks. He has had previous spells in both Indonesia and Singapore and provides experience at the back in what is a youthful team.

Another name that may be familiar to people is Irving Museng who once had trials with Ajax and was touted as a future big name in Indonesian football.
