Commercial Future Targeted For Young Lions

I think I mentioned this story a while back about a company geting involved with SLeague side Young Lions to try and make a few bob off the field. Difficult job given the culture of freebies that surrounds Singapore football but unlike these whining ninnies I wish them well.

But I feel a whine coming on. Check out this comment...

"Being able to work on Singapore football was one of the reasons I joined Vanda ... and we're looking to drive change," she added, confident the commercial side of football here has yet to be optimised.

Like I say hope it works out. I'm just wondering whether they have chosen the right team? Better perhaps to go for a 'local' team and build a brand around a specific area of Singapore like, for example, Tampines or Geylang?

Or are they trying to tap into the latent patriotism that rears its head once in a while? That could be a risky strategy given the tendency in this part of the world to drop something as soon as it becomes old hat or they lose.

Then again the cynic in me, get away, suggests promising everyone who buys a season ticket for the local game, goes to all their home games and half their away games, buys club merchandise and creates an atmosphere inside the stadium should be given an i-Pad.
