SAD no more

A couple of times I've mentioned the Indonesian lads playing in Uruguay. They're in their 3rd year now, not that you'd believe it from the PSSI website, and results have slowly improved as the lads have acclimatised to a new and difficult environment.

It's not me that's saying they're improving. I've not seen them play over there so how the bloody hell do I know? But when Penarol, one of the biggest clubs in the world, decides to snap up a couple of the lads then you know they must be doing something right.

Syamsir Alam has been pegged as a talent since before he moved to South America. Captain of the team, Alam is joined by Reffa Money and will start training with the Uruguayan giants in the new year.

I have only seen these lads play together once and that was against Singapore in an Under 19 competition last year against Singapore. They played with a fluency and a cohesion that is rarely seen in this country so it does seem that this rare example of long term thinking is starting to pay off.

The acid test though will come in five or six years time when they will be expected to start knocking on the national team door.

In the meantime watch out for Alan Martha and Abdul Rahman Lestalahu!
