Does the alternative Indonesian league have legs?

Stories about a new league in Indonesia, called the Indonesia Premier League, still circulate even though most Super League clubs are moving to distance themselves from the idea after the PSSI have said they will not support it.

About the only clubs to have expressed interest in the idea are Persitara and Persiraja banda Aceh and, no disrespect to either club, sponsors are not going to be falling over themselves to throw money at clubs like them.

And of course it is about money. Funding for clubs in the proposed Premier League would come from a central fund, clubs would not have to go cap in hand to local government for funding. And the central pool is promising a lot more money.

Clubs like Persitara are salivating at a windfall nearly three times what they would normally expect.

Professional football Indonesian style. Clubs lack the whit to get off their own arses and market themselves. When local government funding was withdrawn from Persitara they whined...'where do we get the money from?'

Now someone is looking to throw 2 or 3 million bucks their way and they're sorted.

That ain't the way to run a professional football club or league. And if it's teams like Persiraja and Persitara signing up then it is highly unlikely an alternative league will get anywhere.
