Indo-Malay 2026?
After South Africa 2010 could we be looking at Indonesia Malaysia 2026?
It seems the countries are considering a joint bid after a recent meeting in Malaysia. They could call it Melayu 2026 in recognition of the shared heritage, language and culture but then that would go against 50 odd years of post independence thought which has sought to highlight the diferences rather than the similarities between the two.
Not sure how kindly FIFA would look at a bid from a nation that is openly apartheid
But I digress.
Far be it for me, a geezer with a lap top and way too much free time to piss on anyone's parade but didn't FIFA say after 2002 in South Korea and Japan they didn't want anymore joint bids?
But let' s dream. Imagine group stages in Medan, KL, ultra conservative Kelantan, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar and Jayapura! Oh and don't forget Singapore putting up its hand and saying please people can we join in? We promise to sign an extradition treaty with Jakarta and we promise to treat your maids nicely. And no more stories in our media about parang wielding thugs north of the causeway.
