Shut the horn up

I’m not really interested in the World Cup and haven’t been for a long time. ’The greatest show on earth’ quite simply isn’t. It’s an overhyped marketing exercise where people kicking a ball around and fans paying to watch the games are just necessary but unwanted conveniences.

Not for the first time part of the World Cup is ongoing while I’m in Thailand and fans here are treated to the knowledgeable commentary of the Thai anchors. And they’re fun of course. SOU-per save, ying mai dai na khrap and of course he perennial favourite oh hoh oh oh na khrap.

But without doubt the worst thing about the World Cup based on the eight minutes I have seen so far is them bloody horns. Because the trends started there will soon be aped around the world and the last thing I want to do is watch a football match surrounded by what sounds like a swarm of mega mosquitoes.

Yesterday’s game between Chonburi and Thai Port,in among the make up putting on of the local ladies there were signs of horns being blown indiscriminately. And because it’s new and being done in South Africa everyone thinks it’s a wonderful ne wheeze and it’s a bandwagon worth jumping on.

Like face painting it ain’t fun. But unlike face painting I hope the people who are supposed to run the game get rid of it.
