102 Paying Fans
After asking the other day just what official attendance means today I get the answer in, umm, Today newspaper.
It seems that when calculating the official attendance security officials, match officials and issued complimentary tickets are included. The referee's assessor is included! The guy at the gate who tells you not to bring any bottles inside the stadium is included.
When Etoile played Gombak United last night the official attendance was 909. Of that sum only 102 people paid to get in the stadium! Based on normal ticket prices of $5 adults/$1 kids (prices are different at Etoile) a whopping $422 was taken at the gate.
Of course with the World Cup ongoing fans are staying at home to watch that rubbish and not supporting their local team. But then again last week in Thailand I saw a game between Chonburi and Thai Port which had almost 10,000. Mind you Bangkok United must have had less than a 1,000 against Bangkok Glass and probably 60% of them were away fans.

I know the S.League will just blame it on the World Cup, but even without a World Cup, it would still be the same.
