Thai Politics Trumps TPL Kick Off?

The TPL 2010 is scheduled to kick off this weekend as Thai football seeks to build on the success of last season. Things haven't started well with brawling fans interupting the season opener between Muang Thong United and Thai Port as well as the national team going out of the Asian Cup.

Now come rumours that games in Bangkok may not be played this weekend. Some political guys in red shirts will be protesting about other political guys so what may happen is to be on the safe side all football will be cancelled.

Indonesia of course has been down this road just last year with no games played in Jakarta during the election campaigning but it is a sad day when the powers that be decide the atmosphere is not conducive to football.

With Thai politicians looking to get more involved in the game it all looks very messy and if the cancellations go ahead it sets an ominous tone for the rest of the season. Until it starts raining. Funny bit have you notoced people's enthusiasim for politics dampens with the onset of the rainy season...
