Results 16/06 - The Neutered Cats
AFC Cup
Sriwijaya v Selangor 6-1 (Arif Suyono 2, Zah Rahan, Rachmat Rivai. Keith Kayamba 2; Safee Sali) 14,000
Sriwijaya regained some pride for Indonesia after this emphatic performance against Selangor, the team some prat named as his Team of the Year 2009!
Binh Duong v Victory 3-0 (Kelsey Alves. Lancelot, Nguyen Minh Chuyen
Muang Thong United v Persiwa was cancelled because of on going anti government protests in Bangkok
Indonesia Super League
Persija v Persipura 0-2 (Alberto Goncalves, Boaz Solossa)
With this defeat, only their fifth of the season, Persija distant dreams of title glory ended. Two down at half time it needed something special from the Kemayoran Tigers but it never came. And never looked like coming.
Persipura have their weaknesses. They have shown, Persema proved, that Jendri Pitoy the experienced keeper is susceptible to long range shots. His handling is no longer the best but instead of testing him Persija tried to pass their way through the defence and rarely troubled him.
Defeats happen in football and most people can accept them as long as their team has put in a good shift. I think that Persija fans heading home will feel let down by their heroes performance.
Persipura on the other hand will look at the table with growing belief. And frustration. 13 goals conceded in two Champions League games are a stain on their season and proof of the gap between Indonesian football and the rest of the continent.
1 - Arema 23 15 3 5 30-11 48
2 - Persipura 24 12 9 3 40-25 45
SLeague
Beijing Guo'an v Tampines Rovers 1-2 (Tan Tiancheng; Qiu Li, Khairul Amri)
The Stags came from behind to go five points clear at the top of the table.
Malaysia Super League
Johor v Negeri Sembilan 0-2
Hmmm, interesting. Johor FC sit 3rd in the MSL, four points behind Selangor while Johor the state side are bottom with just four points. Don't suppose it matters if they finish bottom anyway, the powers that be won't allow them to get relegated...will they?!
Myanmar National League
Nay Pyi Taw v South Myanmar 1-2
Four away wins and one draw in the opening round of fixtures in MNL 2010.
