2 goals - Firman Utina, Arif Suyono, M Ilham
1 goal - Eka Ramdhani, TA Mushafry, Ismed Sofyan, Ponaryo Astaman, Charis Yulianto

Results don't lie. In 2008 Indonesia played 13 friendlies, including the GRCC Cup and Independence Cup, yet still failed in the ASEAN Cup to make an impression beyond thumping Cambodia and Myanmar.

In 2009 they played a grand total of one friendly. And failed to make an impression in the Asian Cup qualifiers.

Taking positives from Benny Dollo's reign is difficult. Defensively they have done a job and yet they are pants when it comes to dead balls or dealing with crosses where chief vampire Charis Yulianto and gang freeze too often. Take the Bayern game out of the stats and 21 goals conceded in 24 games ain't really that bad.

Unless of course you're not scoring at the other end. Take Budi and Bambang out of the line up and you wonder where the goals would come from. But then needs must when some fat giy farts in your boat and shorn of their two strongest players I'm sure we could expect strong performances from the likes of Arif and, um, someone else.

I've said before too much revolves round Bambang. I would love to see him alongside someone big forward, for example Kennedy the Australia. I'm sure we would see a different player. No longer the focal point, the answer to every question, instead Bambang could float and drift. He could be there for the knock downs or he could be there knocking the ball in for the big man, allowing the likes of Firman and Budi to get up in support.

Do friendlies help? Not when you have the same players playing the same teams then no. Just like three month training camps don't help. What would help would be a long term plan. But can't see that any time soon.

It doesn't matter who gets the job next, be it Riedl or a local. They need to make clear what their plan is, they need to make clear they are in charge.

There are good players out there who don't get a look in. Instead we get the same faces from the same teams. No one has looked at the likes of Yongki Aribowo or Samsul Arief. Why wasn't Djayusman allowed a run out against Australia? Or the Arema right back Zulfikli. Or Saktiawan Sinaga.

Will a new coach and a new Technical Director be allowed to impose themselves without any outside interference? Or will we see the kind of nonsense the Thais specialise in where the media want to pick the team and they call on the FA to punish coaches?

And why am I asking these questions? I don't even like international football!

Comments:
Yes, I agree with you, 100%. Benny should try some new fresh player for the NT. Yongki is great, Zulkifli, Sakti, M. Fahrudin, Oktovianus. I think for Budi, ponaryo, Bambang the era has been finished.
