Do they owe you a living?

With Indonesia's game against Australia done and dusted perhaps now we will hear no more about the two nations playing more often.

I agree that Indonesia would benefit from regular games against that whingy land down under. I also agree that players from here would benefit from moving to clubs down there. Imagine what the likes of Budi Sudarsono and Firman Utina could achieve on a smooth playing surface. Imagine Bambang Pamungkas playing alongside that Jesus fella, Josh Kennedy, and feeding off his knock downs.

It's a win win for Indonesia and Indonesian football.

But what's in it for Australia. They're not a charity. Why the hell would they want to give over valuable FIFA dates to travel to Jakarta because they're neighbours?

Indonesia needs to play quality opposition and it needs to play them regularly. At the moment preparation Indonesia style involves lengthy training camps with games against Pelita Jaya Under 21s, the Army and a bunch of Africans between teams.

Yes, Australia would be nice. But so would games against India, any of them Central Asian 'stans, even bloody North Korea. Play them in Palembang and you can be sure they will never entertain any thoughts of applying for political asylum.

In 2008 there was a Merdeka Cup featuring Libya. As well as Cambodia and Myanmar, who they would later meet in the ASEAN Cup, and the Indonesia Under 21s. Seriously, what's the point?

This generation of players, your Bambang, Budi, Ponaryo, are growing old together. Their careers are fading as they go the wrong side of 30 and they have never truly had a chance to show what they could do. Playing for your country maybe the coolest thing in the world but when you have to come up against a bunch of soldiers? Or you're playing the same team three times in 12 months?

As far as I'm aware there are no games lined up this year until the ASEAN Cup in December. Then we will see the same tired old faces go through the same tired old drills and this will happen ad infinitum until we see some new impetus drive the national team forward with a clear long term plan in place with recognisable goals and benchmarks.

Indonesia does not need to play the likes of Manchester United. Yes, old man Charis can tell his kids of the time Gary Nevile did him for pace and they can humm and haaa over the photographs. But it ain't gonna improve the national team's performance one iota.

So yes, bring on Australia. But bring with them China, India, Japan and Kgrszyststan or what ever they bloody call it.

Until then mediocrity rules.

Comments:
anything that you just mentioned are belongs to the fa's, that is the main problem in indonesia because ...well you've been here for a while you must have heard rumours about it from time to time... and in the mean time there will be a judgement by football society to the fa..maybe there are some meaningful result from then...

yes...i have tried not to mention them too much. hopeully with this special meeting coming up in malang the jakarta globe will provide some coverage.

such an important topic needs better than my often cack handed attempts as translation

I'll believe this 'football congress' when it actually comes off. I imagine SBY, who came up with this brilliant idea, has more pressing matters to deal with a the moment.

he also needs to be careful or he will upset fifa. they don t seem to mind an ex jail bird running an fa but they get their nickers in a twist if they feel politicians are getting to close to the game..

all very wierd
