Referees, Central Java & the Police

This is a story that has been mulling around a bit in the local medoa. I had hoped the Jakarta Globe might do something about it but not yet. I'm not sure of all the details so if someone could give me some info I would be grateful...my Indonesian is failing me!

UPDATE - and here it is!

Central Java police chief -- the same one who arrested two players last season for fighting (the verdict is expected today!) -- took the referee and his two assistants in for questioning because he thought they made a series of bad calls against PSIS vs. Mitra Kukar.

His justification? According to Antara, "I thought I smelled something fishy."

A little birdie (read: housemate) tells me the Globe has a story in the works.

I was in the game, the referee made some stupid mistake. by calling offside to PSIS player when they were not offside and it did happen so many times. the chief of central java was there and watching the game. He then half time went to the pitch and asked the referee to do his job properly, but things didnt change after the 1st half....many fans were dissapointed with the referees, we PSIS should have won with more than 2 goals..

Now what bother us, police should not have intervene with football...what happened in the pitch, let them stay on the pitch.

this chief is just too over reacted with everything...he arrested football players before, now referees....

a new report this evening, the police took the referees cellular phone, but mitra kukar refused to be asked by the police, they said, the match was ok and referees were fair enough...now the chief is losing his popularity in central java...

glad to hear the globe is doing something...saves me doing it!

Globe story is up:
