Jakarta Casual Awards 2009

I had planned to do this as a Jakarta Casual TV piece but didn't have enough pictures to go round and the thought of filming myself seemed bonkers.

The small print bit. All opinions are my own and based on what I done did see like over 2009. Not much Malaysian content I'm afraid 'cos I only saw a couple of games there and deciding so and so is a good player just 'cos someone else said so seems daft.

So dim the lights and away we go.

MESSAGE BOARD OF THE YEAR

Only two candidates for this. Kallang Roar and Thai Football. The latter seems to be populated by half a dozen 30 something expats with way too much time on their hands. Kallang Roar wins for the sheer enthusiasm of some of its members.

MATCH DAY PROGRAMME OF THE YEAR

Again only two candidates. Well, two and a half if you include Albirex Niigata's personalised team sheet. Geylang United produce an A4 piece of paper folded in half so it comes out at four pages and for a long time I thought they were the only show in town. But in Thailand Muang Thong United blow everyone else out of the water with a slick, glossy European style effort

SUPPORTERS OF THE YEAR

Supporters of clubs like Persib, Persija and Arema are well established while anyone can follow a successful team when they are winning. Less easy is to give it 100% in a league where cheerleaders wouldn't know a left back from a right bank, where the only incentive for going is the free chicken rice at half time and no one watches the game anyway. So hats off to the fans of Woodlands Wellington in the SLeague. Keep it up lads...

UNOFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE YEAR

Kudos to fans from Persis, Persiba and Persib who produce regularly updated sites high on quality and low on bells and whistles but the clear winner is www.ongisnade.net for their quality effort. Any chance of an English section lads?

STORY OF THE YEAR

Two stories. One is the increased popularity of the Thai Premier League and in any other year I think that would have been enough but this website is about the region and the big story here was I think Noh Alam Shah moving from Tampines Rovers to Arema. Others have followed but he was the big name and his move did wonders for the game here

OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE YEAR

The Thais are dominating in this particular section while clubs in Myanmar and Vietnam are also coming up with decent looking websites. The winner, and not for the first time, is Muang Thong United

CLUB OF THE YEAR

Had to be Selangor for winning four trophies domestically using only local players. SAFFC, Muang Thong United were candidates but Persipura weren't. Allowing your players to headbutt the ref is not a good idea.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Between the Selangor geezer and Richard Bok at SAFFC but I'm plumping for Bok purely because he has done it time and time again

TEAM OF THE YEAR

Kawin Thamsatchanan (Muang Thong United) - Daniel Bennet (SAFFC), Obidan (Gombak United), Maman Abdurahman (Persib) - Goran Subara (Gombak United), Hariono (Persib) - John Tarkpor (Persitara/Persebaya), Greg Nwokolo (Persija), Arif Suyono (Arema/Sriwijaya) - Aleksander Duric (SAFFC), Teerathep Winothai (Muang Thong United)

Substitutes - Made Wirawan (Persiba), Hamka Hamza (Persik/Persisam), Pipat Thonkaya (Thai Port/Persisam)

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR

A few players spring to mind here. Norshahrul Irfan of My Team, Kawin from Muang Thong United especially and of course Teerasil Dangda. And the winner is...Kawin. The guy is mustard. The last time I was this excited about a young keeper it was John Filan when he broke through with St George

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Again I have to include Alex Duric for his sheer consistency. When I was his age I was drunk in a bar in south Jakarta. But he's still rattling in the goals. But the winner of the inaugural Jakarta Casual Player of the Year is Greg Nwokolo who almost seemed to carry Persija during a difficult second half to the season and fully deserved his move to Portugal.

Agree with you on Kawin. He had always look assured and i haven't spot a moment of calamity of him yet. I feel safer seeing him in goal than Kosin actually.

As for Leesaw, this guy has exceptional talent and wonderful technique, but quite often his decision making let him down, which is a pity.

Leesaw have everything whaht is needed. But he is too soft in my eyes.

that will, hopefully, improve in time

one player who just missed out on being nominated for the young player of the year award was yongki aribowo of persik kediri

if the winner is ongisnade.net then whois the runner up ????
