Better stay home

I was talking with some Persija people over the weekend and only half jokingly I suggested that it would be better if they stayed home rather than travel all the way to Wamena.

The logisitics itself are mind boggling. Jayapura is about a five or six hour flight from Jakarta with a couple of stops thrown in for good measure. Wamena is a further 90 minutes on another flight.

The town itself is up in the mountains and by all accounts get pretty bloody chilly.

No surprise therefore the local heroes, Persiwa, so rarely drop points there.

Tickets probably cost about 300-500 USD. Return. Plus the other expenses incurred in travelling across this vast country.

No wonder players like Bambang Pamungkas, Aliyudin and Ismed Sofyan didn't make the journey. Instead they fly this morning to Makassar where the Kemayoran Tigers take on Persipura who returned to winning ways yesterday defeating PSPS 2-1.

Seriously. Had Persija stayed home they would have their wrist slapped by the ISL and the game awarded to Persiwa 3-0. But they would be something like 10,000 USD better off.

But they don't listen to me. They travelled all that way, spent all that money and guess what? They lost 3-0!
