Noh Alam Shah and Aremania
Last year during the AFF Cup I met up with Singaporean striker Noh Alam Shah for an interview. We had a great chat, one that greatly exceeded the initial time we had agreed on and covered many topics.
One topic was Indonesian football. Of course he knew a bit about the game here through Pelita Jaya coach Fandi Ahmad and he was really excited by what he had heard of the fans here.
I told him about a movie that highlighted the fan culture here in Indonesia and managed to get him a copy. The movie by the way is called The Conductors, made by Yusuf Andibachtiar, and features prominently the fans of Arema, better known as Aremania.
When I next saw him a few months later he was buzzing about the movie, especially of course the scenes of the Arema fans.
Little did we know at that time that just a few months later he would be signing for that self same club!
