Stripping the A League
There was much nashing of teeth recently in Australia after Gold Coast United midfielder Adam Griffiths ditched the A League new boys, and a three year contract, after just one game to move to Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
The 30 year old is swapping the delights of life on Surfer's Paradise for a different type of sand in Saudi where the season begins on 19 August. He will certainly be in for a culture shock when he hits Ramadhan, the Islamic fasting month, which will begin shortly after his arrival.
Back down under before Christmas?
Now another Aussie is attracting interest but much closer to home. Joel Wood is five years younger and was with Newcastle Jets but now I understand is trying his luck in Indonesia. One report said he has already trialled with PSM and is now being looked at by Persela.
If he is seleted then Wood would become the second Australian, joing Robbie Gaspar who has spent a few seasons here. The former Persiba midfielder has now moved to Persema Malang, shortish drive from Lamongan in East Java.
