Reid saga degenerates into farce

The latest tale from Bangkok has Peter Reid doing two jobs at the same time. The Bangkok Post is reporting that Reid wants to be assistant manager at Stoke City and then returning to Thailand after the TPL season has ended to take charge of the Thais in their crucial Asian Cup qualifying games against Singapore.

Because Guus Hiddink did it last year, the logic goes, Reid can do it this year. Of course I don't recall Hiddink have any important international dates on his calender. Reid does. Well, inportant for Thailand.

Thai culture of course is very accommodating on this matter. The mia noi concept is deeply ingrained in society there and the fact that Reid's mistress would be based in England would only add to his status.

But. The story says Reid won't return till the end of the Thai season. Why? Doesn't he need to see the players play? Doesn't he need to see he is carrying knocks? Doesn't he need to see who is in form or out of form?

'Cos if he doesn't then seriously what can he bring to training sessions if at the end of the day he is only doing half the job? Imagine the outcry if some Italian side side like Verona Hellas wanted Fabio Capello to help out for a few weeks? Would the English media be so accommodating? Why not just send Steve Darby the training schedule and have him get on with it.

The Thai FA needs to get tough. They should say to Reid you either work for us, on what we pay you for a full time job, or you work for Stoke. Juggling both jobs is unacceptable.

UPDATE - now we have this! Let's just wait until Peter Reid says something himself. Interesting though that Stoke have been looking active all of a sudden in the transfer window...
