Malaysian Premier League

There are two main Malaysian divisions. One is the Super League, MSL, which I cover here. This is basically an extension of the former Malaysia Cup set up with state funded state teams like Kedah and Perlis alongside a reality TV show My Team etc. The state teams of course get their money from their respective states and may well have no end of political interference going on behind the scenes. And may not.

The second tier Premier League boast some of the daftest names in football. Harimau Muda lead the division by a mile. Their name translates as Young Tigers and they are similar to Young Lions in Singapore. A dedicated national team looking for regular competitive football.

I don't have a scooby about the second place team. Terengganu PBDKT/T Team...I mean what's all that about?

Third are the state team of Johor. There is also a team named Johor in the MSL but they are private I believe and have FC added to their name just in case nobody knew they were a football team. The state team are an FA. At the start of the season in the MPL there was also a Johor MBJB who I think are the council run team of the city of Johore Bahru.

Kuala Lumpur are neither state nor private. KL holds a funny place in Malaysia, rather like Canberra in 'stralia. KL the football team are an FA belonging I guess to the city, district, whatever they call it, of KL.

Selangor Proton FC are I guess a plaything of national car maker Proton and they play in Kelana Jaya, an industrial suburb of Petaling Jaya near KL.

Kuala Lumpur Felda United is a bit of a mouthful so is usually shortened to just Felda United. They are based in KL and I think Felda is some kind of government body.

Selangor PKNS play their home games at Kelana Jaya as do Proton but I have no idea who or what a PKNS maybe.

Now for a real mouthful. Pahang Kuantan Port Shahzan Muda...well, they play in Kuantan. Muda is youth but dunno what a Shahzan maybe. There is worse by the way.

Melaka and Sabah are good old fashioned state teams fallen on hard times as are Sarawak while ATM is an army and or military effort.

And finally Cyril, leaving the best, and longest, till last. Pulau Pinang Sinar Dimaja Mai Sarah Kepala Batas are based in Penang playing their home games at Batu Kawan Stadium. I have no idea who Sarah is.

They are bottom of the MPL having won just one game in this their first season, and lok like being relegated at the end of the campaign.

So all together now...Give me a P

Comments:
