Singapore League Cup
The SLC kicked off last night with a couple of fixtures watched by feeble crowds.
Gombak United v Balestier Khalsa 1-0 (Ruhaizad Ismail) 922
Sengkang Punggol v Woodlands Wellington 2-2 (Indra Sahdan Daud, Mamadou Diallo; Jamil Ali 2) 615
Gombak rested leading scorer Gabrial Obatola but still had enough to overcome Balestier thanks to Ismail's 1st minute goal. But if you think the crowd was bad at Jalan Besar read on.
Singaporeans love a good whinge about the distances in their country. Oh you know lah, Jurong very far lah. And that is with having a good network of free expressways and possibly the best MRT in the world.
God knows what the poor loves would make of living in Jakarta but I digress.
Still the hardy few that made the lengthy trip, which included a Fish out of Water, saw a decent game. For match report and images from the game check out his blog.
Given that attitude what on earth made someone think of having Sengkang Pungol, based in north east Singapore, take on Woodlands at the neutral stadium of Jurong East? What kind of logic came into play on this?
1500 turned up to see Albirex take on near neighbours Gombak last week but surely they didn't hope to replicate that figure for two 'out of townies'?

well despite the treacherous attendance at Jurong East last evening, kudos for the Woodlands crowd to make the noise quintessential to keep the game going, much unlike that muted affair at Bedok Stadium last week.
The poor attendance is really due to people not feeling for a so-called "Mickey Mouse" club which really meant nothing...
