Rare win for Sengkang
This was to be the season that Sengkang Punggol would change once and for all the perceptions about them. No longer the whipping boys of the SLeague, the Dolphins hoped that by recruiting Jorg Steinebrunner as coach and investing big on new players the side from Hougang Stadium would climb the table.
But it hasn't happened. No reason why of course change should be immediate.
But tonight at least the Dolphins fans can celebrate as Anthony Bahadur's goal on half time was enough to beat Steinebrunner's old club Woodlands Wellington and give the home fans some much needed cheer.
It was only the Dolphins second win of the season and their first in seven games so you can forgive the bositerous celebrations in the north east tonight. Especially after conceding 10 goals in their last two outings against a struggling Woodlands who managed to go to SAF and win just a few weeks back.
Bahadur's goal was only his second of the season, the Dolphin's nonth, and perhaps telling is the fact that only three players have scored for them this season. Still, it's an improvement on last season when they scored 13 during the whole campaign! This is free flowing goal fests!
Sengkang Punggol are 12th with eight points from 10 games while Woodlands are 11th with nine points from their 10.
Bottom club Balestier Khalsa take on Gombak United and victory for the Bulls could see them sharing top spot with SAF for a day or so at least.
