Bangkok United step out

Thai Premier League side Bangkok United FC were officially unveiled yesterday.
Nicknamed 'Bangkok Angel,' Bangkok United were jointly founded by Bangkok University and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
Formerly Bangkok University, Bangkok United needed a new organisation and new name to be in line with the Football Association of Thailand's (FAT) new regulations that teams in the country's top flight must be registered as limited companies.
Former Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin, who is now Bangkok United chairman, said the club aimed to win the Thai Premier League in three years.
''Bangkok United are ready for the new season. We aim to finish in the top five in the coming season and win the league in three years,'' Apirak said. ''We have good players and coaches who can bring success to our team,'' he added.
Bangkok University were once one of the country's top university teams. They won three titles in 2006 _ the U-League, Super U-League and University Games, but have since achieved very little.
Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, who is the club's honorary adviser, said Bangkok United FC was established with cooperation between the BMA and Bangkok University.
''The BMA has been continuously supporting sports from the junior level. It is a good opportunity for the BMA to support Bangkok United,'' he said. ''I am confident that Bangkok United will become successful in the Thai Premier League.''
Bangkok United coach Somchai Supperm said he did not feel under pressure to guide the team to finish in the top five and win the league in three years.
Somchai said the club may not be able to sign Thailand internationals and would look for skilful students particularly those from Bangkok University.
Bangkok United use the Thai-Japanese stadium in Din Daeng as their home ground. They kick off their Thai league campaign at home against Nakhon Pathom on Sunday.
COMMENT - sorry but just looking at the names I have put in bold is enough to suggest this won't work as well as they hope. Politicians need to keep the hell out of football.
