Busy Day in East Java
Three high risk fixtures today bring the potential for serious disorder as rivals Persik and Arema play in neutral venues near Surabaya with whom there is no love lost either. Add Persija into the mix at Lamongan and it could be one busy day.
Persija play at Persela tonight in a game being shown live on TV. With it being midweek there is little chance of a large following from Jakarta for this game and indeed nothing has been organised.
Meanwhile Persik take on Sriwijaya at Gresik's Petrokimia Stadium just north of Surabaya. Just to the south we have Arema hosting PSMS at Deltra's Stadium in Sidoarjo.
With both Gresik and Sidoarjo overspill towns for Surabaya the infamous 'bonek' from Indonesia's second largest city are spoilt for choice. Their rivalry with Arema is legendary while Arema and Persik's fans are none too close either.
I understand Arema's officials have requested their fans don't travel to their fixture today for fear of trouble.
Today it may be a good idea to avoid the trains in and around Surabaya!
