Tough Ask for Home and SAF
Tonight sees the second leg of the AFC Cup quarter finals with all four local sides facing tough challenges.
The two Singapore sides are marginally better off. SAF carry a narrow 2-1 lead to Al Nadha in Oman but Datoma Yedibahoma's late penalty will have the hosts feeling confident knowing one goal would be enough to put them in the semis. With defender Mohamed Hafiz bin Osman and goalkeeper Shahril bin Jantan suspended after red cards in the first leg coach Richard Bok will have to change things around. However he has said he will play a more defensive game in away legs in Continetal competition and with Duric up front they are always likely to nick a goal.
Home United drew 1-1 in Hyderabad against Dempo last week and coach Sivaji has promised to go for the jugular tonight. The visiting Indians have expressed concern about the artifical turf at the Jalan Besar Stadium but the onus is on them to get forward and get an early goal. Home have that away goal advantage so they should have enough to see them through.
Malaysia's sides look doomed. Kedah, back to baack treble winners domestically, crumbled 5-0 in Bahrain against Muharraq last time out. Without their foreign triangle of Marlon Alex James, Bernard Huggins and Nelso San Martin they look a pretty poor side but then that's the Malaysian FA for you. It was their decision to get rid of the foreigners.
In what could be Steve Darby's last match in charge of Perak he takes a weakened squad to to take on SAFA in Lebanon 2-0 down from the first leg. A loan from the FA enabled the party to travel or they were faced with being disqualified. Darby hopes to have striker Khalid Jamlus fit again after the striker went off injured in the first game.
