Teeratep to Belgium

Thailand international Teeratep Winothai is set to become the second player from the ASEAN champions to join a club in Belgium when the 23-year-old moves to second division side Lierse SK.

The 23-year-old, currently the leading scorer in the Thailand Premier League with nine goals for BEC Tero Sasana, will follow in the footsteps of international team-mate Kiatprawut Saiwaeo, who recently joined Club Brugge on-loan from English Premier League side Manchester City.

Teeratep, who has had spells in England with the youth teams of Crystal Palace and Everton, will remain with BEC Tero Sasana until the end of the current Thai season and is expected at the Herman Vanderpoortenstadion in October.

However, according to Lierse’s official website it is anticipated that Teeratep will only be ready for action by January 2009, setting up a potential club versus country conflict, with the skilful forward likely to be an essential part of Thailand’s 2011 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers against Jordan and Iran taking place the same month.

He has signed an 18 month contract with the Belgians.
