Selangor v Kedah

There is of course other football in the Malaysian Super League today but everyone will be focused on this clash at Shah Alam between the top two. I previewed the game in depth on ESPN earlier in the week so don't intend rehashing all that.

Kedah will be without the promising Baddrol Bakhtiar who is being sent to Chelsea for two weeks as part of the deal that brings the London club to Malaysia in July. Baddrol is being philisophical about it saying “It’s the call of duty and I’m duty-bound to answer it,” which of course is diplomatic of him.

Chelsea whistle and the east falls to their knees.

The Canaries are competing for the Super League and the FA Cup as well as having a chance of qualifying from the AFC Cup. Why the hell can't this secondment wait until the season finishes?

Malaysia though likes the 'big' gesture, the symbolism, witness the way how they begged and pleaded last season for Manchester United to visit and sod the Asian Cup they were hosting. Yes there will be benefits for Baddrol to train with the Chelsea youth team but surely his priority, and that of the FA, is Malaysian football.

Isn't it?

Back to the big game.

1. Kedah 19 15 2 2 50-20 37 47
2. Selangor 19 13 3 3 39-24 15 42

It's clear for Selangor only one result is acceptable or Kedah will have one hand on the trophy they won last season. Their respective run ins look like this:

12 April
Kedah v Terengganu
Penang v Selangor

19 April
PDRM v Kedah
Selangor v Sarawak

26 April
Kedah v Pahang
Johor v Selangor

3 May
Perlis v Kedah
Selangor v Negeri Sembilan
