Arsenal outclassed at Boro
Yeap, we lost a game. That's it, it's all over and Wenger will be collecting his P45 this morning instead of his Christmas bonus. Boro showed the good old English bulldog spirit, working hard, closing down, harrying defenders, they deserved three points. The thing is though Arsenal will play better this season. Will Gareth Southgate's men reach that level again or was it just a one off? To be safe from relegation Boro need that performance week in, week out, not just when the big boys come a calling.
Liverpool also lost and Rafa complained about the penalty that wasn't given, conceded ironically by Jamie Carragher. He got away with dead certs against Everton and Arsenal but the ref's union penalise him against Reading when he was, for once, innocent. Good performance by Reading and wasn't there just a Henryesque touch about Harper's goal?
Derby scored away from home! Talking dodgy penalties, Ronaldo falling then colliding with the defender's leg anyone? Still United, in the rain, did what they had to do and keep the pressure on the Arse.
Chelsea continued with their run of easy fixtures since Avram Grant replaced Jose, another win and what happened to the protests eh Chelsea fans?
Everton won 3-0 and continued their recent fine run with Yakubu taking on the goal scoring responsibilities by getting a hat trick. Just 32,000 there is a bit of a worry.
Portsmouth's fairy tale season continued with a convincing 3-1 victory against Aston Villa who could not replicate their form against Arsenal. Odd that. Neither could Blackburn who lost at home to West Ham while Newcastle will take three points from a last gasp victory that lacked the inspirational qualities they showed also against Arsenal. It's all very well getting up for the Arsenal but these middling teams need to do it against Boltons and Wigans every bloody game, not just against us.
