Enraged Myanmar players attack ref

It wouldn't be an AFF Cup without some team walking off the pitch for a few minutes. It's as AFF Cup as brawling is to the NHL and Ken Barlow is to Coronation Street. We expect it, it's part of the fun seeing pouting FA officials or coaches beckoning their players to leave the field of play.

The Thais of course did it in the final in 2007. They were peeved about a penalty that ws given to Singapore they felt shouldn't have been a pen. And of course the match officials said oh yes, you're right. We'll change our mind.

Did they bollocks.

Last night it was the turn of Myanmar.

With Shi Jiyai lying injured on the floor Singapore quickly took a free kick, Myanmar didn't react while Agu Casmir did and it was 3-1. The Myanmar keeper , Aung Aung Oo was incensed and went charging after the ref followed by his team mates.

Oo got there first and pushed the wonderfully named Dung first. The rest piled in while Singapore celebrated their goal and going through to the semi final.

Brazilian coach Falopa went racing on to the pitch, illegally, to try and calm his players down, while no doubt Dung learnt some wonderful Burmese swear words amid the melee.

All the while Singapore's Indra waited patiently to come on as a substitute.

At the end of the game the Myanmar players gathered together and sarcastically clapped the ref, Dung, off the field.

Great fun of course and following in the fine tradition of AFF Cup walk offs.

After the game I heard from one individual who said that the reason why the Myanmar players were so pissed off was that the ref, Dung (love that name), had signalled for the injured player to recieve treatment.

Next thing they know Singapore have scored and they are out.

To be fair during the game Myanmar had lots of possession but they rarely threatened the rather boringly named Lewis in the Lions' goal and Singapore deserved their win.

Interestingly, with the opponents tempers frayed and the team losing discipline gone for a burton Singapore coach Raddy opted to replace his striker Noh Alam Shah. No diplomat our NAS!

Some images from the melee can be found here. Action from the game will come later. Much later.
