Kelantan's kids

IT is not just experience that Kelantan is banking on to finally land their first major trophy in their history.

While much has been made of their high-profile recruitment drive which saw the likes of Indra Putra Mahayuddin and Khalid Jamlus come onboard, coach Peter Butler also intends to give youth a chance to shine.

And his faith in the youngsters was repaid when 22-year-old midfielder Ramzul Zahini Adnan not only set up a goal but scored one as well in Kelantan's 4-1 Super League win over Penang in Kota Baru on Saturday.

Also on the scoresheet were skipper Badri Radzi, who bagged a brace, and Norfarhan Mohamad while Penang netted late on through Norhaslan Mokhtar.

The win enabled Kelantan to keep pace with Selangor, who edged Kuala Muda Naza 2-1 in Alor Star, to leave both teams locked on 21 points.

"I thought we played excellent football, although we were a bit rusty after the (three-week) break, but it was good to get back to action," said Butler yesterday.

"I gave some of the young players a run out and I was delighted with Ramzul, who scored and made a goal. He has a great work ethic and was exceptional last (Saturday) night. I'm gradually bringing in the young players and he's starting to get some playing time. He's just delighted to be part of the team."
