Vietnam v Singapore

Lions shade Hanoi stalemate
HANOI, 12 October 2008: Singapore and Vietnam played to a 0-0 draw in an international friendly at the My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi this evening.
On a wet night, the Lions shaded the contest with the Vietnamese keeper arguably the busier of the two custodians.
Skipper Indra Sahdan almost put the visitors ahead on the half hour mark when his flick towards goal was cleared off the line.
Fahrudin Mustafic started the match having arrived in Hanoi the day before and he almost made his mark after 38 minutes when his pile-driver was deflected just wide after good build-up play from the Lions.
The returning Agu Casmir should have put Singapore ahead just after the break on 50 minutes when substitute Muhamad Ridhuan's superb centre found the Gombak striker right in front of goal but his stiff effort was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Vietnam keeper.
Noh Alam Shah almost marked his own return to the National Team with a goal but his two efforts - one a header and the other a speculative volley - were comfortably dealt with by the Vietnam keeper.
Coach Radojko Avramovic was well pleased with the efforts put in by his charges against a good opponent who "moved the ball very well and was not easy to play against".
"It was a good game and I'm happy with what we showed. We passed the ball better than before and generally we tried very hard. However, we can of course do better and we missed several good chances as well.
"The defence was stable throughout the game and restricted Vietnam to taking shots from outside the box."
Despite failing to get on the scoresheet, Raddy was satisfied with the outing by his forwards.
"All of them have done ok even though I always expect more from them. It was a first game in a long while for Agu and Alam Shah and they have shown me that they have the will and desire to play which is important to me.
"In the long run, with the competition we have up front, the quality will be there as they know they have to be better than each other to play."
Singapore: Lionel Lewis (gk), Ismail Yunos, Baihakki Khaizan, Daniel Bennett, Juma'at Jantan, Shahril Ishak (Ridhuan Muhammad 46'), Fahrudin Mustafic, (Noh Rahman 82') Shi Jia Yi (Isa Halim 75'), Khairul Amri (Fazrul Nawaz 70'), Agu Casmir (Aleksandar Duric 65'), Indra Sahdan (captain) (Noh Alam Shah 65')
