Penang FA raise RM15,000 to pay players
GEORGE TOWN: The 30 Muslim players in the Penang senior and President’s Cup teams can now look forward to celebrating Hari Raya - albeit in a small way.
The Penang FA (FAP), whose coffers have run dry, have not paid their players and staff their salaries for the last four months.
With Hari Raya just days away, FAP vice-president Gary Nair said they had managed to raise about RM15,000 to be given out to the 30 players and the association’s staff.
He said the Penang Indians FA were the main donors, contributing RM2,000.
Gary, meanwhile, agreed that the amount raised was insufficient.
“We hope the State Government can lend us a helping hand,” said Gary, who is also appealing to well-wishers to chip in.
Those who wish to give financial aid to the players can contact the FAP at No. 9, Jalan Scotland
