Tits Up For Muang Thong United

Two time champions Muang Thong United sit in 3rd place in the Thai Premier League, a whopping 25 points behind champions Buriram PEA. The gap is so large I needed a calculator to work it out. Of course they were never gonna make it three TPLs in three years, not once Buriram PEA decided they wanted to win it this year. But Muang Thong's fall from grace has been stunning.

Boasting players with the calibre of Datsakorn, Kawin, Teersil and Nattaporn and imports like Dagna and Koukou then they would have expected to have run the champions a lot closer than they did.

The revolving door of coaches didn't help and the feeling must persist that appointing former Liverpool and England international Robbie Fowler was made with an eye of generating headlines. After all, the club is owned by a media empire and they know how big names from Europe will keep the club in newspapers while the title has been decided elsewhere.

The team's run in has been abject.

Their defeat on new year's eve away to Buriram PEA was their fourth straight.

A big clear out is on the cards ahead of next season. Whether Fowler will be there, despite receiving the vote of confidence, remains to be seen.
