New Coach For Persib

Persib Bandung have finally ended weeks of conjecture by appointing Daniel Roekito as their new coach. Roekito replaces Jovo Cuckovic who only started the job on the eve of the seaspn, replacing Darko Janacovic before a ball had been kicked in anger.

Persib find themselves in unfamiliar territory, siting bottom of the 18 team Indonesia Super League with just a solitary win to show for all their efforts.

Roekito brings plenty to the table. He won the old style Liga Indonesia in 2006 playing some of the most carefree football since Henri Michels’ great Ajax side of the 1970s. OK, maybe not but Roekito does have a penchant for attacking leaving the defense, at least the ones who stayed behind, stranded when their attacks break down.

Last season he guided an unfancied Persiba Balikpapan to 3rd place, their highest ever finish in the highest division.

He inherits a talented yet underperforming squad and one of his first jobs will be to assess who to keep and who to discard in the transfer window next year.

His first game will be away to Sriwijaya on 2nd January, not an easy debut by far.
