How safe is Riedl?
Indonesia's new Austrian coach Alfred Riedl hasn't even got his Welcome Home mat down at his apartment yet and people are wondering if he has a future here. And this despite just signing a two year contract.
Politicians are now wondering why Indonesia is unable to succeed at any level in football given the passion that exists for the game here and the quality players out there. In the shadow play world of politics there lies a deeper message behind these rhetorical questions but this is a football blog.
Back in March a football congress was held in Malang. Promoted by the government it was designed to look at what ails the game here and how to raise standards. Nothing changed of course because the FA has sole responsibility in football matters and at FIFA level no political interference is brooked. Apparently.
Now the top people are saying that Indonesia needs a world class coach and some names are being considered.
This leaves many, many unanswered questions.

World-class coach? They're havin' a laugh!
The PSSI is lucky it could get someone like Riedl, who knows how to navigate Southeast Asia and build up underperforming nations (Vietnam, Laos, etc.). It's the kind of smart, calculated hire that would normally elude with their heads in the clouds and fingers in other people's pockets.
Who do they think is out there salivating at the chance to manage one of Asia's most underwhelming nations? Trapattoni? Capello? Gullit? Well, that last one could do with a job....
