Brick Me, Says Duric!
Aleksander Duric is jealous!
Days after Singaporean team mate Mustafic Fahruddin needed treatment for a head wound after the Persija team bus was attacked by rivals fans in Cirebon ahead of a friendly Duric has spoken about passion on the terraces in a newspaper interview today.
Singapore was recently declared the 2nd best sports city in the world, after Melbourne. But Australian Football League games average around 35,000 fans per game and are known for their raucous atmosphere and good natured sledging. Singapore, on the other hand, get about 200 paying customers and fans are told to keep the noise down by pigeons hoping for some nooky in the rafters.
I don't suppose we'll ever see 500 Geylang United fans boarding the MRT to Tampines singing 'In Your Tampines HDB, you look in the dustbin for something to eat, you find a dead rat and think it's a treat', dancing and scaring stout middle class shoppers with their 'wild' ways. Or Woodlands Wellington fans travelling to an away game at SAFFC via City Hall to confuse the police. Or Albirex Niigata fans throwing slices of pizza on to the pitch in disgust at another home defeat. Or Home United fans slipping away from their NS and, god forbid, buying a ticket to watch their team.
Go down Boat Quay on an EPL match day and, among the expats, there are plenty of locals wearing football shirts and singing football songs. The Penny Black generates more noise than a copulating cooing pigeon...
It would be great to see groups of mates doing things themselves. Forget the nonsensical cheer leaders, the chicken rice and the politeness. Kick up a racket. Travel by train, call people from Jurong Westies, people from Woodlands Malaysians and people from Geylang pimps.
I would love to see the reaction on line to all that!

i wld love to see that too..but singaporeans are more concerned about the quality of ya kun kaya bread and the latest movies fr hollywood then to get involved in soccer...they are too stupid for it.
If he wants to cop abuse and bricks he should come back to Australia, play in one of the state leagues. And I'm not just saying that because South desperately needs a striker...
