FIFA bullying Brunei - the SLeague curse lives on

Brunei is a tiny dot, well two dots actually, on the world's surface. It's a relatively harmless little place that plods along in it's own sweet little way usually without getting pissed. It's not often the country or anyone from the country makes any ripples anywhere. A big news story there is a maid being sacked for cutting her toenails while watching imported soap operas.

It's dullsville, ASEAN.

And yet that big behemoth Blatter and his boys have decided that the football club from Brunei, called DPMM, should be kicked out of the SLeague for offences committed by officials.

What a load of billy bollocks.

So what if some FA was disbanded, another created, the government got involved and no one could drink beer anyway. Why should all that palava effect the players and fans of the football club that has made such an impression in their maiden SLeague season.

They have managed to lead the table, win the League Cup and even had three players sent off in one home game. All in a few short months. Never before has Brunei attracted so many headlines though admittedly not by the Singapore media.

But because of some admin shit FIFA wants to wipe all that. FIFA, safe in its 5 star Rio hotel wants to be seen to be tough.

Wanna be tough FIFA? Clamp down on players diving. Ban players who go brawling on and off the pitch, bringing the game into disrepute. Go after the big fish, not the minnows. Be brave for a change.

So with DPMM on the verge of being unceremoniously dumped by the suits who never even played Subbuteo the SLeague is looking distinctly hexed. Two years back it was Liaonang who were dumped after being found guilty of matchfixing.

Last season Dalian Shide were kicked out after one season when nobody even noticed they were there.

Three clubs in three years, the SLeague is looking distinctly cursed. But this is not having an impact on one club looking to join next season.

I understand from a source close to the FAS that Hogwarts School have applied to join the SLeague in 2010. A club spokesman, Parry Hotter, says they're not worried about any curse over foreign clubs in the SLeague because they will have Professor Snape as their coach and he knows everything about the dark arts.

- I like this one, :-p

Cool! Maybe now we will see some wizards down the left and right wings!

Actually, the curse affected more than just 3 foreign clubs, the full list should be 5:

2005 - Sinchi
2006 - Sporting Afrique
2007 - Liaoning
2008 - Dalian
2009 - DPMM??

Even the local clubs are not spared:

2003 - Jurong/Sembawang
2004 - Tanjong Pagar
