New owners for My Team?
Sime Darby may finance MyTeam
MYTEAM are set to come back stronger and better next season. Having hogged the limelight for the wrong reasons — lack of money — the reality outfit are talking with Sime Darby and things are looking positive.
In fact, Mailsport learnt that representatives from both parties have been in constant touch and could ink the deal after the Hari Raya celebrations.
Among the requirements include that the property-cum-plantation giants sponsor MyTeam for their Malaysia Cup campaign which starts on Sept 26. MyTeam could also be renamed Sime Darby MyTeam. MyTeam manager Yakub Hussaini, however, remained tight-lipped over the issue.
"It's too pre-mature to say anything at the moment. We'll surely make an announcement when the time is right," Yakub said.
Mailsport was told that business tycoon Datuk Chan Tien Ghee had also expressed his intentions of sponsoring MyTeam but later changed his mind. Tien Ghee is rumoured to have investments in Cardiff City as he attended Cardiff's clash against Newcastle United at the Bluebirds' new stadium over the weekend.
Tien Ghee is the managing director of Central Malaysian Properties. MyTeam's contact with United Plantations Berhad has come to an end. As MyTeam are based in Perak, they are now asking the Perak FA to allow the team to play in KL.
Perak only have the Perak Stadium in Ipoh and Lumut Stadium which are able to host Super League matches. MyTeam originated from the TV reality series and raised eyebrows in their debut season in the Premier League in 2007 and were promoted to the Super League the following season.
Financial difficulties saw them struggling this season as MyTeam only managed 11th spot in the standings. MyTeam boasts a string of talents including national Under-23 striker Norshahrul Idlan Talaha and defender Bunyamin Umar.
COMMENT - can't you give them a decent bloody name? Something like Petaling Jaya FC? For all of Malaysia's love affair with English football they seem unable to grasp the basic point about the game their. Fans can identify with their team. How the hell do you identify with Sime Darby My Team or T Team or whatever other daft names they have?
UPDATE - is Sime Darby owned for former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra?

Reading the article I was going to make the exact comment as you. Year 1 of My Team made sense as it was a continuation of the Reality Show. But now its time to start putting down the roots in a community.
