Bambang spills his heart

In an emotional article written on his personal website Persija & Indonesia striker Bambang Pamungkas has given the background to all the rumours that surrounded him before he extended his contract with Persija.

He admits that at one stage he was 80% sure he would sign for Sriwijaya but asked for more time to consider. He goes on to say had they come back to him he may well have moved. They didn't and he didn't although, like any professional, he was excited by the prospect of AFC/ACL football next season.

Then there was Persib who were seriously interested and spoke to him in Malaysia. But he couldn't. Not after 9 years with Persija and not given the deep seated emnity between both sets of supporters.

Selangor also expressed an interest but given that foreign players are banned and a decision on whether they will be let back in next year won't be made till October meant this was a non starter even though he does have many good memories from his two years there.

You gotta love the guy. He exudes class and humility on the pitch, Gary Lineker without the cheese and onion, but shy and retiring off it. His love for Persija is genuine and his willingness to speak openly and frankly about the pre season rumours just shows how real he is.
