Singapore Malaise
DPMM from Brunei are leading the SLeague. Both Phnom Penh Crown and Bangkok Glass have defeated SLeague opposition in the Singapore Cup this season with TTM Samut Sakhorn having a go tomorrow. Add DPMM and we could have four teams in the quarter finals from outside Singapore.
Oh and last December saw the national team get beaten by Vietnam in the AFF Cup semi final.
The one bright spot on the horizon for the game is the liklihood of Home United qualifying from the group stage of the AFC Cup.
Of course it's still likely that the traditional powers like SAF, Tampines and Home click into gear on the home front and face down the foreign upstarts.
Singapore of course has a very small talent pool to choose from and it's only natural that those players are attracted to the bigger sides. The downside of this though is that the smaller clubs in the SLeague become little more than cannon fodder for everyone else.

Regardless of the TTM/S.Reds result, quick facts on this season's cup:
1) Both finalists (SAFFC/Wlds) of 2008 were eliminated.
2) Together with YL, 3 out of 4 semi-finalists of 2008 were out.
3) Only 3 out of 8 quarter-finalists are local teams, the lowest number ever.
4) 1st-time quarter-final appearances for both DPMM/Phnom Penh after multiple attempts, congrats!!
5) Foreign team may make-up 3 out of 4 semi-finalists this season should Albirex upset Tampines in the quarters.
6) The final will certainly feature a foreign team, a repeat of what happened in 2006 (Chonburi). Base on their strengths, this season could see one of them lift the cup. Geylang/Home/Tampines pls hold the fort...
