PSIS ditch first team squad
PSIS Semarang have announced they are dropping their first team squad and will see out their fixtures using Undr 21 players. The side who are currently bottom of the table have said the money pot is empty and they can't afford to keep paying the high salaries to the first team squad.
Understandable really as the current first teamers have managed to lead the once proud club to bottom of the table where they have just four wins and 14 goals to their credit all season.
It was just in 2006 when they pushed Persik all the way for the Liga Indonesia title with a side comprising the likes of Emmanuel de Porras, Gustavo Hernan Ortiz, Harry Salisbury and I Komang Putra. Now we are hard pushed to name any of their first team squad as the club tried to go it alone with private sponsorship used for the bulk of their expenses.
Perhaps the decision by their local police to not allow spectators at their home games for the rest of the season had a major impact on this, effectively ending any cash flow they may have had.
Not heard from Semarang Dave for a long time...
