Pelita Jaya up for the cup

SINGAPORE, 9 April 2009: Indonesian Super League side Pelita Jaya, coached by former Singapore captain Fandi Ahmad, will join three other invited foreign sides to compete with the 12 S.League clubs in the prestigious RHB Singapore Cup which kicks off on 27 April 2009.

Pelita Jaya will be the first ever Indonesian club side to compete in the Singapore Cup although the Indonesian Under-23 team did make it to the quarter finals of the Singapore Cup in 2005.

Joining them in making their Singapore Cup debut this year will be Thai Premier League side Bangkok Glass FC. Fellow Thai Premier League side TTM Samut Sakhon FC, who were previously known as Thailand Tobacco Monopoly FC, will return to hopefully better their quarter-final showing from last year, while Cambodian League champions Phnom Penh Crown, formerly Phnom Penh Empire, will return for their third straight appearance in the Singapore Cup.

The draw for the Singapore Cup will be held on Wednesday 15 April 2009 at 12pm. For the first time since the competition started in 1998, the Draw will be held outdoors right in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District at the Coffee Club Raffles Place. The Draw will be hosted by Class95 DJ Glenn Ong and will also feature percussion band Sambiesta, to entertain the lunch time crowd with some hot and sexy Brazilian Samba and FHM girls.

COMMENT - as I reported a few weeks back, Fandi brings his Young Guns to Lion City. He did tell me a while back that he was targetting the Copa Indonesia but Persibo, led by Syamsul Arief, pissed on that idea. Now he gets a second chance in Singapore.

How many clubs enter different cup competitions in diferent countires in the same year?
