FAM Help Perak
Perak can play in AFC Cup, thanks to FAM loan
GEORGE TOWN: Cash strapped Perak will get to see through their commitments in the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup tournament.
The FA of Malaysia (FAM) have granted them a US$20,000 loan and this enables them to travel to Lebanon for the away match against SAFA on Sept 23.
Perak coach Steve Darby said yesterday that they were grateful to the FAM for a quick response to their appeal for funds, which was made last Friday.
“We will not suffer the embarrassment of having to concede a walkover to the Lebanese side because we have no money. The loan will enable us to purchase air tickets for the trip,'' said Darby in a telephone interview from Ipoh yesterday.
Perak will get a reimbursement of US$20,000 from the AFC only after the away match against SAFA. The first-leg match will be played in Ipoh on Sept 16.
Perak are in financial difficulties and they needed handouts from well-wishers to play away matches in the Malaysia Cup competition.
