Persik and Pelita Jaya

Though this game was played Wednesday night this is the first chance I've had to write anything about it.

As ever with a Persik game you're left holding your breath. A side short of quality such as Legimin, Danilo and Fagundez was good enough to beat most teams in the ISL, especially with Budi Sudarsono, for me the most technically gifted Indonesian player at the moment, in such sincilating form.

He revelled in the captaincy force on him by Danilo's absence and he led by example as he almost single handedly went rapier like at the Pelita defence.

About that defence. Singaporean coach Fandi Ahmad has strengthened his youthful side by bringing in some rock like stability at the back, giving impressive young keeper Dian Agus Prasetya some samba experience.

Despite Budi's advances this was a game Pelita Jaya never looked like losing and indeed after taking the lead on 71' through Jalaudin you thought they might sneak it, and that would have been some achievement. Persik have only ever lost one home game in the top flight.

But we're talking about Persik Kediri. When you can miss the aforementioned trio and still leave international striker Saktiawan Sinaga you are doing something right. On comes the former PSMS man, first touch he reaches a long ball into the box and for the first time all night Agus is rooted to the spot.

If you are ever, ever anywhere near a game and Persik Kediri are playing then take the chance to go and see them. It's champagne football in a league of yorkshire bitter, they are the Harlem Globetrotters, they are worth the effort of trekking out to the Javanese foothills.
